Public Information Act Requests

Maryland’s Public Information Act (PIA), codified as Md. General Provisions Code Ann. §4-101 et seq., grants the public the right of access to records that are in the possession of State and local governmental agencies. However, under the law there are required and discretionary exemptions to the release of certain information. As such, some records may not be released or may be released in redacted form. Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) and its members will abide by all local, state and federal laws governing the release of public records.

Please note that the PIA only applies to requests for records, which includes, but is not limited to, documents, drawings, maps, photographs, and recordings. The PIA does not require AACPS to create a record that does not currently exist, nor does it require AACPS to provide analyses of records.

If you wish to obtain or inspect records, please contact the following:

Please note only parents or guardians have the right to access the records of their students. Some exceptions under the Family Education Records and Privacy Act (FERPA) may apply.
