Finance
Finance enables the Instructional Departments and the other business programs to concentrate their energy and vision of their functional areas. This is accomplished by handling payments to vendors, meeting financial reporting requirements, and managing safety and risk issues and the other functions with minimum involvement of other offices.
Financial Operations & Reporting
The purpose and focus of the Office of Financial Operations & Reporting is to support the instructional and business programs of the school system related to all aspects of Construction Accounting, and certain aspects of General Accounting, Grant Accounting, Trust and Agency Accounting and Medicaid Accounting. Financial Operations enables the Instructional Department and the other business programs to concentrate their energy and vision of their functional areas. This support is accomplished for the Construction Accounting by managing: budget maintenance, accounts receivable, cash management, accounts payable, internal and external financial reporting requirements, general ledgers, and filing systems for all documentation received. Financial Operations works in conjunction with the departments of Facilities, Planning & Construction and Maintenance to review budgets related to the Construction Capital Projects. The support for General, Grant, Trust & Agency and Medicaid Accounting is by managing: accounts payable, reconciliation of various general ledger accounts and maintaining a filing system for all documentation received for accounts payable.
Insurance and Safety Management
The purpose and focus of Insurance and Safety Management is to support the instructional and business programs of the school system by implementing strategies to minimize employee safety and health risks. Also by identifying the underlying conditions that contribute to accidents, reduce lost time as a result of injuries, and limit property and liability losses. This is accomplished by adhering to recognized national safety standards and requirements, training programs, and investigation and inspection procedures. It also involves a coordinated effort to document and track employee accidents, return employees to work via an “early return to work” program, and oversee the insurance program for the Board of Education. Insurance Management works very closely with the Risk Management Division in Anne Arundel County, the Human Resources Office, Accounting Office, as well as any office or department that has a workers compensation loss.
Special Programs
The purpose and focus of Special Programs is to support the instructional and business programs of the school system related to Grant Accounting, Food Service Accounting, Trust and Agency Accounting, and Payroll Accounting. The Office of Special Programs enables the Instructional Department, schools, and the other business programs to concentrate their energy and vision of their functional areas. This is accomplished by meeting financial reporting requirements, handling payments to vendors, filing reimbursement requests, and the other functions with minimum involvement of other offices. The Office of Special Programs works in conjunction with the Instructional Departments, schools, and other business programs to review budgets related to Grants, Food Service, Trust and Agency, and Payroll.
