Hafsa takes oath of office

Hafsa Hamdaoui, a rising senior at Crofton High School, today became the 51st Student member of the Board of Education. Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court Mary Katharine Fowler administered the oath of office to Hafsa, who will serve a one-year term as the only student member on a local Board of Education in the nation with full voting rights.

It was 1974 when Jeffrey Robinson of Andover High School became the first student member to sit on the Board and while he served in an advisory capacity, he began what has been an outstanding legacy of student service and advocacy. That legacy continues today with the beginning of Hafsa’s one-year term.
