The next meeting of the Innovative School Scheduling Workgroup established by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. The workgroup has been created to engage stakeholders in a robust conversation regarding school scheduling in Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) and to consider innovative school scheduling models for implementation in AACPS. It consists of AACPS staff, elected officials, and representatives from community organizations. Meetings are open to the public and public feedback on innovative school scheduling in AACPS and the work of the workgroup is encouraged. Individuals will be able to provide comment in person or virtually at the end of each workgroup meeting. A total of five speakers will be permitted to speak for three minutes each. Written comment may also be submitted to Grace Wilson, Senior Legislative and Policy Specialist, at gawilson1@aacps.org. Over the last couple of years we have been visiting our school community to create art! We asked, "What do you want to see in OUR COMMUNITY?" Together we created a beautiful piece that is now hanging in the Community Room at AMS. You can check it out during Dragon Night (Friday the 20th) or Community Room Office Hours (Monday the 23rd)!

Hispanic Heritage Month
🎉 Celebrating #HispanicHeritageMonth ! Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long observance in June 1968, introduced by Congressman George E. Brown and approved by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 17, 1968. In 1988, a bill championed by Senator Paul Simon and U.S. Representative Esteban E. Torres extended the celebration to a full 31 days. President Ronald Reagan signed this extension into law on August 17, 1988. On September 14, 1989, President George H.W. Bush officially declared the period from September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month. This timeframe honors the independence days of several Latin American countries: Mexico (September 16, 1810), Chile (September 18, 1810), Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (September 15, 1821), and Belize (September 21, 1981). #CelebrateDiversity #AACPSCelebrates
