The Board of Education has adopted a 2025-2026 school year calendar that calls for classes to begin for students on Monday, August 25, 2025, and end on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The calendar, approved at the Board’s January 8, 2025, meeting, is one of two recommended by the AACPS Calendar Committee. It maintains the holiday closings contained in the current school year calendar as well as a three-day Thanksgiving break and a six-day Easter/Spring break. It extends the Christmas Winter break by two days to a full two weeks. It also contains closings for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Eid al-Fitr and builds in three days to be used in the case of inclement weather.
In adopting the calendar, the Board discussed the need and expressed its intent to have further discussions about future calendars to be more inclusive of other groups.
The calendar calls for elementary and middle schools to be closed for students on November 12, 2025, with staff taking part in professional development on that day. High schools will be closed on the day of their graduation, with staff attending those ceremonies.
The calendar also contains four two-hour early dismissals to allow for staff to engage in professional development related to equity and two two-hour early dismissals at the end of each of the four marking periods.
