The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will consider approval of new agreements for Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School and Monarch Annapolis Contract School at its next meeting, set for Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
In Maryland, charter and contract schools operate under agreements with local school boards. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell is recommending renewal of the agreements with both schools.
Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the Board will consider approval of two new courses: Unified Music & Leadership for high schools and a theater course for the Apex Arts middle school magnet program. The meeting will be held at noon in the Board Room of the Carol S. Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public and subject to normal space limitations in the Board Room.
The Board will also recognize outgoing members Corine Frank (District 3), Melissa Ellis (District 4), and Michelle Corkadel (District 7) at their final meeting.

The Board will also meet in a public session at 10 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public.
PROCESS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS
The Board will hear public comment from up to 10 total speakers (virtual and in-person combined) per agenda item (excluding personnel items, reports, informational presentations, and recognitions) during a single public comment section in the early portion of the meeting. Additionally, up to 10 speakers can comment on non-agenda items, excluding student-specific or personnel matters, towards the end of the meeting.

BOARD WORKSHOP ON STRATEGIC PLAN SCORECARD
The Board will hold a public workshop at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, to hear about scorecard items that will track the school system’s progress toward meeting goals in the Strategic Plan. The five-year plan, adopted by the Board in May, is guiding AACPS’ work through 2029.
Scorecard items related to each goal in the five priority areas of the plan will be unveiled at the workshop.
The workshop will be held in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public, but no public questions or testimony will be taken.
