Principal's Message

Greetings Families!

The school year is going to be exciting! We have expanded our team and we are excited to have a full time School Social Worker, a full time School Psychologist, a second Bilingual Facilitator, and a second Behavior Specialist. We are also entering our second year as a Community School.

This year, we will be implementing Conscious Discipline. Please ask your children about Conscious Discipline and find out more at one of our parent information evenings. Conscious Discipline begins with the adults in the building We are looking forward to learning more about our brain states and self-regulation strategies. My favorite so far is Pizza Breathing.

Our two biggest goals this year are to improve attendance and to improve academic performance. Did you know that students should not miss more than 12 days a year? This means students missing one day a week or two days a month will exceed the allowed absences.

When looking at academic growth for each student, we will be looking at growth in reading and math. It is essential that students are in school each day so that they can learn. Reading each day and practicing math facts daily will support students’ growth.

While we are growing academically, we need some fun to stay motivated. We also want our students to LOVE school. We want each of you to feel welcome and safe at Van Bokkelen. We are planning spirit days, field trips, guest speakers, staff v. students basketball games, family nights and more.

We are excited about working together with our families and community partners to have a fun year growing our students.

Respectly,

Kellie Schell-Ramey
