About Us

Phoenix Academy, located in Annapolis, MD, is an educational options institution serving grades 6 through 12. It offers a unique placement system, allowing students to enroll based on parent choice and through the Office of Safe and Orderly Schools, ensuring a tailored fit for each student's needs. The academy boasts a robust curriculum that includes specialized programs such as Project-Based Learning (PBL) in middle school science and social studies classes.

PBL at Phoenix Academy involves students working on interdisciplinary projects that integrate science and social studies concepts, fostering deeper understanding and practical application of knowledge. This approach encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving. Research indicates that PBL can significantly enhance student achievement by increasing engagement and promoting higher-order thinking skills. Studies show that students involved in PBL often outperform their peers in traditional settings, demonstrating better retention of knowledge and improved problem-solving abilities.

Students benefit from rigorous, direct instruction on a structured A-Day/B-Day schedule, which complements the PBL approach by providing a balanced academic experience that fosters both academic excellence and a disciplined approach to learning.

At Phoenix Academy, adherence to uniform and cell phone policies underscores the school's commitment to creating a focused and distraction-free environment. All students are required to submit their cell phones before entering the premises, promoting engagement and minimizing interruptions. Discipline is approached through a restorative framework, emphasizing constructive resolution and personal growth over punitive measures. This holistic approach helps to build a respectful and cohesive school community, aligning with Phoenix Academy's mission to provide a safe, orderly, and academically enriching environment.
