Principal's Message

Kallon

Dear Maryland City Families,

My name is Jessica Kallon, and I am the principal at Maryland City Elementary School. This school has hard-working students, dedicated staff members, and devoted parents! It’s a pleasure to be the leader of such an amazing school community. Prior to coming to Maryland City, I have spent the past four years serving as the principal of West Meade Early Childhood Center. Before that, I was an assistant principal here in Anne Arundel County and a second grade teacher here at Maryland City. It feels good to be back home!

Maryland City is a Title I school. Approximately 86% of our students receive free and reduced meals during the school day. Because of this, we receive funding from the federal government to support our academic program. This money is used to pay salaries of supplemental personnel, to purchase materials for our students, and to provide parent events for our Title I families. Our Title I personnel are dedicated to helping Maryland City students achieve academic success.

As a staff, we work hard to cultivate strong relationships with parents, students, faculty members, and community partners. Furthermore, we are focusing on using data to drive instruction, implementing strategies to increase students’ achievement on Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. Our school improvement plan aligns with these initiatives.

We will continue to provide Maryland City students opportunities to prepare them to be world-class citizens ready to master challenges of the 21st century. Please join us as we do so by attending school-wide events and volunteering at school. We welcome your involvement!

Respectfully,

Jessica Kallon
