Hi there!  I’m Colleen McFarland, the very proud principal of Glen Burnie Park!  This is my 8th year here and I continue to be excited about the positive successes we’ve all made together! I have been teaching for 27 years, after graduating way back in 1995 from Frostburg State University.  I went on to Loyola College to earn a Masters as a Reading Specialist, and then a second Masters in Administration from Goucher College.  Obviously I love to learn!  When I’m not in school, I coach field hockey (over 17 years from ages 5-18) and love watching my daughters, Austin and Abby play sports. We also love to hike and watch movies!  What I love most about GBPE is that we are truly a diverse family of many cultures and backgrounds!  Our teachers, students, and families WANT to be here and we all learn from each other.  GBPE is the BEST place to be!  We are Ohana---a family!

Hi! My name is Maura Shaul. I am excited to be the new assistant principal at Glen Burnie Park Elementary. This is my 19th year in education and 9th year at Glen Burnie Park Elementary. During the last 9 years of my career as Right Start Advisor, an instructional coach for new teachers, I have had the privilege of supporting many of our new teachers at Glen Burnie Park. So, there’s a good chance we’ve already met or that you’ve seen my face around the building!

I graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College and began my teaching career in Virginia in 2006, while my husband was stationed at Naval Station Norfolk. In 2010, we moved to Annapolis where I continued my teaching career in Anne Arundel County. In 2014, I earned a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson University, as well as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certification to better support our growing population of English language learners. In 2019, I also earned my Administration Certificate from McDaniel College, which helped me prepare for a future role in leadership. You know what they say about teachers--we make the best students! 

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jesse, and our Golden Retrievers, Dudley and Pearl. I also enjoy reading, creating art, traveling, and spending time with friends. I am excited to welcome our teachers and students back this fall! They are the reason why I love doing what I do, and I am looking forward to kicking off another great year together.
