Attendance
ABSENCES:
Absences must be communicated in writing. (No phone calls, please.) Simply log into your parent portal account and submit your child's absence. When a student is absent for five consecutive days, a doctor’s note is also required. Additionally, as per the AACPS attendance policy, students are required to provide a written note to the school within 3 days of the student's return explaining the cause of absence. Notes provided after the 3-day window will not excuse the absence. Please allow 24-48 hours processing time for this to be reflected in the AACPS Parent Portal.
Thank you for communicating absences, particularly multiple days absences, in advance whenever possible. However, please note that families will continue to receive the AACPS-automated absence call(s) for unexcused absences, such as travel. More information about excused/unexcused absences can be found below.
LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY DISMISSAL:
Upon arrival at our school, parent/guardians will be invited into the main entrance vestibule. Here, a hand-written late arrival or early dismissal form is to be completed. Paper forms are collected at the table in this entrance area. Parents/Guardians MUST accompany a student who arrives to school late; drop off in the car loop is not permitted once the school instructional day has begun. School staff will assist the students to enter the building from the vestibule once a parent/guardian has completed the late arrival sign in process.
If your child is to be dismissed at any time during the regularly scheduled school day, please email your child's teacher, as well as Mrs. Hamlett stating what time you plan to pick up your child. Upon arrival, the parent/guardian will sign them out in the vestibule and your student will meet you there. We ask you pick your student up no later that 2:00 so not to interfere with dismissal.
Thank you for not opening the door for any other visitors/adults waiting for entrance into the building. School staff will attend to this process.
