International Baccalaureate - Middle Years Programme
IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
What is the Middle Years Programme?
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a curriculum framework designed for learners aged 11-16. The MYP is five-year programme, which is implemented in a partnership between Annapolis Middle School and Annapolis High School for grades six through ten. The MYP is a whole-school model.
In an MYP classroom, you’ll notice that the students are the center of learning. They are:
developing international-mindedness
drawing connections between the eight subject areas
making explicit links to the world around them
participating in language acquisition to support communication skills
experiencing global points of view wherever possible
Each IB Middle Years Programme is authorized independently. Anne Arundel County Public Schools determines what the program will look like in our community. At its heart, our IB MYP reflects the students, parents, teachers, and school leaders who have participated in its development and implementation.
