Resources for Students and Families

Anne Arundel County Public School students earn their required 75 hours of Service Learning during the school day through various projects from 5th - 11th grades. In 5th - 8th grades the students complete projects with their school or grade level teams. In 9th - 11th grades, hours are earned in the following courses: Biology, Health, US Government, and English 11. Students in our IB World schools earn their hours through coursework that supports their personal project. If you have questions about specific projects, please reach out to your school for more information.

We are fortunate to have a Service Learning Portal for our high school students to access as a way to earn distinguished service hours. The portal also allows the students to log hours that are approved by our community partners and to have a record of hours served between 9th and 12th grades. This is a wonderful tool, especially when it comes time for scholarship and college applications. There is more information about our service learning portal on this page.

There are also a variety of resources available for students to serve others.  Below is a list of organizations that help match up students who wish to serve with service programs. These hours are not able to be logged in the portal unless the hours are completed with our community partners. Students are always welcome to recommend new community partners through the service portal or may email Lori Fowler.

Recovery Hours

Students earn service learning hours in grades 5 - 11. These hours are embedded in the curriculum and are completed as part of their regular school day, with occasional out of class assignments. There are instances when students are not able to complete these hours due to extenuating circumstances. The following project, "Homeless Project", can be completed if needed. Parents will be contacted if service learning recovery hours are needed. Please contact your school's Service Learning Liaison or Lori Fowler with any questions.
