The Right Start New Teacher Support Program will empower new teachers to advance student learning and inspire them to make teaching a lifelong passion.

Our Mission

The mission of the AACPS Right Start New Teacher Support Program is to develop and retain highly effective teachers by providing:

  • Instructional Coaching

  • Differentiated Professional Development Opportunities

Components of the Right Start Program include New Teacher Orientation, professional learning opportunities, and individualized professional development and support from a Right Start Advisor (RSA). 

New Teacher Orientation

Welcome!

New Teacher Orientation is a professional learning experience designed to get newly hired classroom teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, and School Counselors off to the Right Start in AACPS!

Important Information

New Teacher Orientation takes place August 12-15, 2024. Lunch will be provided on August 13, 14, and 15.

Additional professional learning opportunities are available on our Head Start Days, July 25 & August 8.

Newly hired first year teachers who are not certified are invited to participate in Bootcamp on August 5, 6, 7 or 8.

Resident Teacher Certification Program

Resident Teacher Certification (RTC)

Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program (MAAPP) 

Anne Arundel County Public Schools' (AACPS) Resident Teacher Program is a Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program (MAAPP) designed for professionals interested in changing careers or recent college graduates with degrees in fields other than education. AACPS, in collaboration with Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), provides an accelerated teacher training program, and a pathway to becoming a certified classroom teacher.

Program activities include the following:

  • Coursework

  • Seminars

  • Fieldwork Opportunities

  • Supervised Internship

  • A Residency of 1-2 School Year(s) Following the Internship

Upon program completion, Resident Teachers will be eligible to apply for an MSDE Standard Professional Certificate I (SPC1).
