Annapolis High’s IB Program is overjoyed to continue in our second year of partnership with Save Our Trees Annapolis (SOT). As participants in the IB program, students connect with local and global communities through the Personal Project, Creativity/Activity/Service, and Service Learning in the Middle Years, Diploma, and Career-related Programmes, respectively. These efforts teach students to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. It is the multi-faceted, whole-person approach of IB that prepares them to be thoughtful young adults in the real world.
Not only have representatives of Save Our Trees Annapolis visited countless classrooms to talk to students about invasive species and saving the environment, but they have invited our students to get out in the community and make an impact. The community connection saw vast growth in the number of Annapolis High participants from IB and MYP GCC classes in this second year, and we know the interest will continue to grow! The opportunities students have to volunteer are endless: clearing invasive species, planting native species, becoming watershed stewards, being a part of the Friends of Quiet Waters Park Environmental Committee, among others. In fact, the Quiet Waters Park team will be dedicating a plaque to highlight the positive environmental impact made by Annapolis High student volunteers. It will be created by our very own art department with student input, thanks to a grant arranged by Save Our Trees. We can’t wait to see what Annapolis High students can do as we continue to collaborate in saving our trees!
