The Division of Facilities includes the departments of Planning, Design and Construction; Maintenance; and Operations and Logistics Support.  It is the responsibility of this Division to construct, maintain, and operate all public school facilities in a safe and efficient manner in support of the educational goals of AACPS.

In support of AACPS academic and administrative goals, the Department of Planning, Design, and Construction balances school utilization through redistricting, facility improvements and/or future new construction while balancing financial, technical and community constraints.

The mission of the Department of Maintenance is to ensure that all public school facilities are maintained at a level that promotes and reinforces the educational goals of AACPS. The office is charged with the responsibility to plan, organize, and execute a program for maintenance and repair that supports the essential needs of all students and staff.

The Department of Operations and Logistics operates all public school facilities in a manner conducive to the educational process by ensuring the health, safety, comfort, and welfare of the occupants.

 Operations manages the resources of very diverse programs. These include:

• Ensuring the cleanliness of more than 14 million square feet of interior school space

• The proper operation of all mechanical equipment in more than 120 elementary, middle, high schools and other educational centers

• All environmental related programs - including asbestos information

• Preventative maintenance activities

• Energy related programs

Logistics manages the resources of very diverse programs. These include:

• The maintenance repair warehouse

• The operations material warehouse

• Mail and distribution services

• Property control inventory

• Textbook inventory

• Instructional equipment repair

• Fleet automobile service facility

• Student and human resource records archive
