Meet The Board Members - 2024-2025
Sarah J. McDermott
Sarah J. McDermott was elected to represent Councilmanic District 4 on the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County in November 2024 and began a four-year term on December 2, 2024.
Sarah is a public servant, Air Force veteran, and the proud mother to two Anne Arundel County Public Schools students. She currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner for Occupational and Professional Licensing at the Maryland Department of Labor. Overseeing more than 25 boards and commissions, the division is responsible for licensing and regulating Maryland’s workforce.
Previously, she served as Director of Communications for the Maryland Department of Budget and Management. She also has experience working both the Maryland General Assembly and the Governor’s office, though she began her career in the United States Air Force as a Signals Intelligence Analyst.
Sarah received her associate’s degree from Anne Arundel Community College and bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives in Odenton with her husband, children, dogs, cats, hamster, and bearded dragon.
