Assistive Technology
The AACPS Assistive Technology Team works collaboratively with school-based teams to eliminate barriers and ensure that children with disabilities can use technology to progress through the general education curriculum to reach their full potential. The Assistive Technology Team is transdisciplinary and includes staff specializing in Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, and Occupational Therapy. This team supports students and school teams by providing the following:
Conduct the evaluation process for the consideration of Assistive Technology
Provide equipment which may include low tech or high tech AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools and devices, specialized software, computers, portable word processors, computer access tools etc.
Deliver and train students, staff, and families to support the use of AT across settings
Collaborate with school teams and families to promote implementation of AT tools
Develop and carry out system wide professional development trainings
