Wall of Honor Nomination GuidelinesPURPOSEThe Glen Burnie High School Alumni Wall of Honor will recognize alumni whose achievements shine as stellar examples to the students of Glen Burnie High School. ELIGIBILITY OF CANDIDATESAll nominees must have graduated from Glen Burnie High School. At least ten (10) years must lapse between the time of graduation and the nomination submission. NOMINATING PROCEDUREAnnually, the committee shall select a Chairperson and the Principal shall assign a school Liaison. In addition to the Chairperson and Liaison, the committee shall consist of the School Principal, one (1) current GBHS Faculty Member, one (1) current member of the GBHS Business Advisory Board, GBHS Senior Class President, at least three (3) GBHS Alumni and at least one (1) Community Organization Representative. The total number of committee members shall not exceed fifteen (15). Members of the Committee may not submit nominations for this award but are eligible to be nominated. In the event that a committee member is nominated, said member will forfeit the right to vote for that particular year. It will be the committee’s responsibility to announce the recruitment of nominees through the news media, mailings and personal promotions. The committee will meet as often as needed to outline the promotion and selection of the honoree(s). The committee will also be responsible for coordinating the purchase of the award and flowers, signage for the parade and outlining all award ceremonies. Nominees will be considered only for the year in which the nomination has been received. No nominees will be carried over to the following year. Applications will be available in the Glen Burnie High School Main Office, on the school website or through Committee Members. All submissions will become the property of the GBHS Alumni Honoree Committee. Applications must be received by May, 1st of the current year in order to be considered. Any application received after this date will not be considered eligible. Only completed applications will be considered. Applications will be mailed to: GBHS Alumni Wall of Honor Committee Chairperson RECOGNITIONThe Inductee(s) will be recognized in a public ceremony before the start of the GBHS Homecoming Game. In addition, an unveiling ceremony will be held earlier in the day. The Inductee(s) will be presented with a Commemorative Pin and GBHS Alumni Wall of Honor plaque as well as a place of honor on the Alumni Wall of Honor. Announcement of the Inductee(s) will be published in the local news media. SELECTION PROCESSThe committee shall convene in February to outline the schedule to promote the program. News media coverage will be sought in February announcing that applications are being sought and again during the middle of March announcing the deadline for applications. Completed applications will be returned to GBHS and coordinated by the chairperson of the committee. Only completed applications will be reviewed. Copies of applications, minus the name of the nominee and the nominator, will be distributed to committee members the first week of May prior to the selection day. Each member will review the application and select those candidates who posses the required traits. A maximum of five (5) nominees who receive a majority of votes will be inducted. Neither the Committee Chairperson nor the School Liaison will vote. In the case of a tie, the nominees will be discussed and a secret ballot will determine the winner. The chair of the committee will contact the inductee(s) and make arrangements for participation in the Induction Ceremonies. Letters of acknowledgement will be mailed to all individuals who submitted nominations thanking them for their participation. Letters of acknowledgement, along with the original nomination form will be mailed to all nominees saluting them for their service to the community. |
